Babatunde Raji Fashola, Honourable Minister of Power, Works and Housing has endorsed the duo of Babajide Sanwo Olu and Dr Obafemi Hamzat crediting them for a lot of the foundational work that has positioned Lagos for further growth and development.
53 years old, Babajide Sanwo-Olu spent 16 years in the public sector and 11 in the private sector. He was a three-time commissioner in the state ( Commissioner of Budget and Economic Planning, Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Commissioner for Establishments, Training and Pensions) and had done a lot of work on improving the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR). leading the publication of the Lagos State Economic Empowerment and Development Strategy (LASEEDS), set up of LagBus and the Lagos State Security Trust Fund.
Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat with a Ph.D. in System Process Engineering from Cranfield University, England was Commissioner for Science and Technology during the tenure of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in August 2005 and retained the position when Governor Babatunde Fashola assumed office in 2007. He was recently a special adviser to the minister.
From Electronic Document Management Systems to e-health initiatives to upgrades and management of the State Network Infrastructure to ICT laboratories and Forensic laboratories that provide better evidence in the adjudication of criminal cases and unsolved murder cases to the Lagos state residents registration agency framework, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat set out and completed rapid science and technology reforms across different sectors.
Speaking recently on a talk show, Babatunde Raji Fashola talked about his expectations for the 2019 elections citing the experience of Sanwo Olu and Hamzat as a reason why they are well positioned to lead Lagos to greater heights. He said;
“The duo of Babajide Sanwo Olu and Hamzat have a lot of experience and I believe the foundational work that has been done should be entrusted to those who worked on building the foundations instead of experimenting.
Having served with them as a member of a former cabinet and as executive governor of the state, I can say that they have the experience to take Lagos to greater heights.
My time is done and I am now a citizen so when ever I am in Lagos I expect to be served when I get there and I am sure that will happen”
